ESTATE

5000 beautiful acres to explore.

The Tregoyd Estate lies at the foot of The Black Mountains on the Welsh side of the border between England and Wales. The estate is only a 5-minute drive from Hay-on-Wye, named one of the ‘prettiest towns in the UK’ by Conde Nast Traveller in 2022.

The Black Mountains form the easterly part of Bannau Brechyniog (the Brecon Beacons National Park), one of three Welsh national parks. The entire National Park achieved the status of International Dark Sky Reserve in 2013.

The 5000-acre Estate consists of parkland, farmland, hill land and forestry. The wonderful and very popular Twmpa or Lord Herefords Knob and Hay Bluff are both owned and managed by the estate.

Huw’s grandfather Sir David Evans-Bevan purchased Tregoyd Estate in the 1960s as one of two Breconshire Estates. He used the estate principally for pheasant and grouse shooting. The main house on the estate, Tregoyd House, remained empty for many years before being let to PGL. Huw, Elizabeth and their three children have lived on the Estate since 2007.

  • There are 5 farms within the estate. The quality of the land is mixed and therefore suitable for both livestock and some arable. The excellent lower grazing is utilised by a large and very successful local dairy herd. Farm visits can be arranged and local butchery organised with notice.

  • Every now and again one of our estate residential properties, commercial buildings and storage units come up for rent. Please let us know what your requirements are, and we will let you know if we have something suitable and can keep you informed of as and when something becomes available.

The main house on the estate, Tregoyd House, was the former seat of Viscount Hereford and is today the flagship base of the children’s outward bound activity provider PGL. They use the entire building, adjoining farm and lake for all sorts of fun activities including abseiling, climbing, trapeze, archery, shooting, raft building, canoeing and riding.
